General Internal Medicine (GIM) has a rich tradition at The University of Chicago, dating back to the founding of the medical school in 1927. We are committed to preparing our graduates to provide the best patient care no matter in which area of medicine they decide to practice: subspecialty, hospitalist or primary care. The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency program is a three year, ACGME accredited program with teaching sites at both the University of Illinois Hospital (UIH) and the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Medical Center (JBVA). Towards this end, we have a Clinical Investigator Pathway that allows residents to pursue training in internal medicine, with a strong emphasis on research, and a guaranteed position in one of our subspecialty research fellowships. I have been an Internal Medicine Program Director for over 30 years, and the excitement of bringing physicians to their fullest potential continues to motivate me every day. Supplemented by a three-year behavioral science curriculum, the training program strengthens doctor-patient relationships.
